Thank you so much!! See you there!!!
Dear Supporters, Friends and Constituents,
I am humbled and deeply grateful for your hard work, support and votes that resulted in my winning an At-Large position on the CMS Board of Education. I especially thank my campaign team and the committed volunteers who made this win possible!
I will never forget those whom I have been elected to serve; CMS students, families, teachers and staff as well as every citizen of this county. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my lifelong advocacy for public schools as a member of the school board.
I renew my commitment to every citizen of this county to do all that I can to make sure we provide a quality education for our children while ensuring that all schools have the resources they need to excel.
I ask your continued support and prayers as I embark on this journey. I ask that you join me in providing the youth of this community hope for their future by ensuring they have a strong foundation from which to pursue their goals. A quality education will provide them with a springboard from which they can dive into their future endeavors. It will support and sustain them as they choose and navigate the pathways they wish to travel.
No one can make this happen for our kids by themselves. They need all of us. Our forebears made it happen for us, now let's make it happen for them! Education is everybody's business if you care about our community. I look forward to working with each of you as we nurture and grow our greatest natural resource, the children of Mecklenburg County.
Mary's Announcement Speech
A couple of weeks ago I retired after teaching for 34 years - 24 of them in CMS. Why am I not riding off into the sunset, checking off items on my bucket list? Because; I care about children and their parents, I care about educators in this district and I care about the future of CMS to attract and retain the best and brightest. I want to help mend the fences that have been broken in our community, to restore trust and integrity where it’s needed.
I want to make sure that we continue the good things that happened under Dr. Gorman’s leadership and I want to help the Board of Education as well as the interim and future Superintendent understand that our students, parents, teachers, staff and our community deserve to be treated with respect and sincerity when decisions are made that affect their well-being.
With that said, I, Mary McCray, am running for an at-large position on the school board. If elected, I will always remember that I represent the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western parts of this county. I will work to serve the people and students of Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, Mint Hill, Matthews, Davidson and Pineville. My words, my actions, and my potential votes will demonstrate that I will not forget whom I serve.
Why would I want to enter this fray at this moment in time? The future of my family, and every other family is invested in what happens as CMS moves forward without Dr. Gorman. My grandchildren currently attend CMS schools and my daughter is vested in CMS as a teacher. As the former president of CMAE, I’ve investigated the erosion of trust and the extinction of teacher/staff morale within the CMS family. I believe that if we are to go forward in providing quality public school education for every child here in CMS, we’ve got to repair the bridges.
I do not shy away from the fact that I am the immediate past president of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators. I am proud of the advocacy work we have engaged in on behalf of students, parents, educators, and administrators. I am also proud of the work we have done on behalf of educators as a whole, providing professional development, fostering education leadership on the local, state, and national level, ensuring effective educators in our classrooms, providing research and conversation on current trends to community groups, working with elected leaders and providing scholarships to grow our own local public school educators.
If elected to the school board, I know that my foremost responsibility will be to all the citizens of Mecklenburg County. I am therefore seeking your support and your vote in the November 2011 at-large election.
Thank you for your time,
Mary McCray Campaign
